- Crested Butte
to Aspen Hike
|
|
In early August of 2021, we completed
the 11 mile hike from Crested Butte to Aspen consisting of a
2000 foot climb to West Maroon Pass and a long descent to Maroon
Bells outside of Aspen.
Unfortunately, due to a nearby fire
the sky was pretty hazy which impacted our views and photographs.
Topographical view of the hike:

This is an 11 mile hike from Crested
Butte to Aspen, but a 3 1/2 hour drive as the only roads must
go around signficant mountains. Some people spend the night on
the other side and hike back the next day. We opted for a shuttle
ride back to Crested Butte.
Hike Profile:

The hike up from the Crested Butte side
is steeper and prettier with a greater abundance of wildflowers.
Once you reach the summit of West Maroon Pass, there is a long
descent into Aspen over a rocky trail which ends at the normally
bueatiful Maroon Bells Lake, though on this day the Bells were
obscured by haze from a nearby fire.

Final approach to the Summit and reaching
the Summit....

After a quick lunch, we start the long
descent into the Aspen area culminating at the Maroon Bells Lake....
